The elliptical arch is formed by multiple arcs each of which is drawn from its own centre compared to the roman arch which is a semi-circular arc drawn from a single centre point. The elliptical arch lintel enables the creation of a wider, shallower arch opening compared to that offered by the traditional steeper semi-circular arch.
